Let me start this post by saying that I feel bad for what I said about the guys who are struggling to put bands together. I shouldn't have called them pillsbury doughboys and said that they were incapable of producing outstanding work. Let me apologize to them from my heart for that. I really do feel bad about it. I don't want to discourage them. It's just that when I recall reading that Musicians Wanted page in the Georgia Straight in 2008 and seeing how into my music they were, I go absolutely nuts from the thought how much disrespect I have received from them in all the years since. If I made them feel good with my music, even if it was in the hands of fraud bands, I think I deserve at least a modicum of respect from them. Anyway, that's up to them, I guess. I don't really think they are pillsbury doughboys. I'm sure a lot of them are fine musicians. I was just lashing out at them in my agony. I hope they can be big enough to understand where that remark came from and forgive me for it. And those new CBC shows look very interesting. Workin' Moms is just the kind of show I'd like. I think it's pretty cool of them to honour our hard working mothers in the population with a show like this. I wish them success with their new programming schedule. I've looked up our new prime minister on Google to see what he looks like. He looks younger than I thought, but he looks like a fair man. Maybe I'll do a portrait of him with my ballpoint pen. I've been waking up with this recurring vision in my head over the last few months. It's from a seat in a movie theatre during the screening of a documentary feature that starts with footage of me playing shirtless in front of a massive, Woodstock like crowd. I'm playing and singing a song that is not currently in my repertoire, kind of a party song with lyrics that are half jibberish but extremely catchy. I'm going to have to try to write that song now. It sounded really cool. We're moving into the last week of my library phase and I'm a little sad. I've done a lot of living on these pages in front of the world over the last eight years. During a mass, there's a point where the priest closes his eyes and stretches out his arms, as though to join hands with all humanity. That's how I feel when I'm online, like I'm reaching out and touching friends all across the globe. And now it's almost time to close this tragic chapter in my life. I will miss you, my dear invisible friends. |

Heartfelt Apology
Learning the Hard Way
|
I added the big corporate names to my list of star copyright offenders on my copyright issues page accessible through my statements link at the bottom of this post. Here is a list of violators of my copyrights who can afford to pay me big bucks in compensation. By the way, I thought MacDonnell-Douglas's video for Bird of Prey was a rush. Of all the violations of my music, theirs was perhaps the most tasteful. If only we could have come to a legitimate arrangement for the use of my song in that video. I'd have been proud to have such a majestic aircraft named after one of my songs. And it's important to include the name of Telus among the violators of my work if only to explain why I have no home connection. The cable company, given its own culpability in this affair, affords no safe alternative for me as an internet service provider. I hope the rock radio has stopped playing Blue Rodeo's violations of my 2007 YouTube account. As I was just telling rock radio listeners just a few weeks ago, their station makes them hate me. When the radio has people loving a fraud for something I wrote, it turns the whole crowd into my enemy. After ten years of this now, I consider myself an expert on the subject. Back in 2004 when I was cutting my teeth as an author of poems and short stories, I wrote: Bring on your archers, fellow bards My heart invites their plunging pain For what is time without a wound To give it measure but inane? Bring on your terror, beloved foes I'd rather run for want of aim Than play an idle waiting game My heart is filled with triumph new I owe it most of all to you I'd just finished reading a biography of Dostoyevsky that talked about his time in the gulag and I pined for some similar kind of strife in my own life to give my work an edge. I suppose I should be careful what I wish for because my last thirteen years of total misery have more than answered this need. Rock and roll gained its edge initially through the trials of black Americans in a racist society. Without anyone being the victim of some kind of horror or injustice, there is little to distinguish one author's work from the next. What set my work apart, then, is my struggle against such overwhelming injustice. And while those who've been caught and prosecuted now may know the shame of public rejection, they will never know how it feels to have such shame imposed on them when they are innocent. This knowledge and the authority it adds to my work will set me apart forever among the authors of my time. 12:22pm: I'm heading home now after linking up the titles on my notices of copyright violations for The Nefarious Broadcasting Corporation, Weapons and Entertainment Arsenal, and The National Bullcrapping Corporation. I imagine I will be able to get everything linked up the way I want and all the lists finalized beside each offender's name in my star copyright offenders list in time for my meeting with my new lawyer. He said I must undergo an orientation and I've been trying to imagine it. Maybe they'll say something like, 'okay Dave, we'll let you have your money but you must stop calling the business a parasite.' Or maybe they'll say, 'we'll let you be a star but you must stop calling the media a sex offender.' For the kind of money and fame that I have coming, such a compromise strikes me as entirely acceptable, so you may expect a possible softening of my stance as I attempt to undergo the transition from being a poor isolated crime victim to a widely respected public figure. 6:11pm: I just added the rest of that poem for this post. It was first authored and shared in 2004 under the title Bring on Your Archers. If anyone else has had their name on it since then, please put the offender behind bars. |

It Makes Me Wonder
|
Call me a liar A coward and a cheat And in my defense What case could I possibly make And how could I deny A heart so tender and sweet How could I betray A love so complete Well it's hard to explain The troubles that I've made Lucky is the man Who learns from his mistakes There is little left For the man who hesitates And tell me what is gained By those who always take So here's what's left of my heart Yeah it's all torn apart You say your hands are tied And it's time to say goodbye Still it makes me wonder And it makes me cry Yes it makes me wonder And it makes me cry How the best things are won with sacrifice I can't stand the sight of my own reflection I just don't like what I see All I ever hear you saying to me Is that I'm not the man that I used to be So take the veil from your eyes This is who I've always been I know it's not a pretty sight Yeah I tried but I failed Still it makes me wonder And it makes me cry Yes it makes me wonder And it makes me cry Yes it makes me wonder And it makes me cry How the best things are won with sacrifice Okay, so do you want me to say now that I wrote the above lyrics in 2007? I WROTE THIS SONG IN 2007. BLUE RODEO STOLE THIS SONG IN 2007. I complained about Blue Rodeo stealing this song in 2007 and nothing happened. But it's not 2007 anymore. You get the cops to come and bust me if I'm lying. I damn well recognize my words. I recall hearing that prick of a fraud band on the radio with this song I wrote while I swamped furniture in a delivery van. If you don't want to take this offense off the web, I'm calling my lawyer about this today. And if you want to know what the words in the chorus mean, they mean it makes me wonder if CBC is controlled by biker gangs and it makes me cry because I'm sensitive. Yes, I've never been afraid to admit that I cry when I'm in severe pain. I bet Nickleback passed on stealing this song because they thought it was a pussy song. I'm going to add Blue Rodeo's name to my list of known violators of my copyrights and I'm going to link their offense to this page. And as long as this stays online, I expect you to believe me when I tell you they stole this song from me. As I said, I want Blue Rodeo tested for ownership of the above song and when they fail the test I want them tested for all of the songs on their Small Miracles album. And then I want them severely punished for violating my copyright and trying to kill me with my own heartbreak. They probably stole Diamond Mine from that guy in Toronto too, but that's his problem. I can only prosecute them for music they stole from me. 2:50pm: So what happened to the words I was looking at for this yesterday? Am I confusing it with something else? I thought I saw a version of these words that had longer, more esoteric words in the verses. I tried to find it today and maybe it's been erased. But I recall how I used to publish my music in 2007 when I was unsure about the words and then change them after. Anyway, I would have written and shared the other version of this song as well, slightly earlier. I'm surprised that the words were still online for me to recover today. When I tried to recover my words for Buck Henry and Under My Umbrella I couldn't because they were totally erased from the internet. So my loyal readers (to hell with the rest of you), it looks like I found myself a lawyer today. I'll be meeting him later this month and getting the wheels moving on my legal action against all these crooked stars like Blue Rodeo. Oh yes, I'm quite free to come to the public library and complain about Blue Rodeo's crimes because the police can't arrest me for telling the truth. Remember that, you artists of the future, when this horror happens to you. I better get busy working on my copyright issues page now. I want to have it well organized in time for my meeting. And let me leave you with a more positive example of my heartbreak with the below video. This song, which the Crystalids stole from me, is just as sad as It Makes Me Wonder, only it's a little more innovative. I bet this is the one that made all the rock radio listeners and CBC/MTV viewers call the Crystalids 'Jesus'. You don't have to call me Jesus, just don't call me a liar when I'm telling the truth. Ten years of this crime is enough now. 4:18pm: Wow, am I ever beat here at the public library. I'm down with that January flu. I have a headache and trouble with my breathing. But I have so much work to do on these files that I have to work when I'm sick. I also find it depressing to have to log so many thousands of violations of my copyright by every star in the world when our media would still rather support a violator of my copyright like Blue Rodeo after ten years of this abuse. But at least I'm going to have a lawyer now. Nice to know that I will have someone on my side again to help me with all this. I'll come back tomorrow and post some more. I might as well stay online through this latest copyright dispute. God, I hate my life. |

Don't Go to Blue Rodeo
| So they're still going through with the Blue Rodeo show. I just had a look through the lyrics on their Small Miracles album from 2007. Did they write It Makes Me Wonder or did they steal that from me? That really looks like something I might have come up with back then. I suffered a lot from those music violations as I shared my first round of songs on YouTube. I recall being extremely upset about hearing a song that was about the pain of my image's assassination being stolen and turned into fraud by Blue Rodeo on the radio. I think I even complained about it in my Blogger account at the time. Can you copyright guys test them for that song? Can you test them for every song on the Small Miracles album? This band is friendly with George Strombpoulos, the media connection for the former Crystalids. | ||||||||||

No Attention, No Hit
|
A world is not in human hands But in the grip of greed Whose champions make cruel demands Upon the ones in need Thus honest work is undermined Turned crooked and uncouth To capture and in darkness blind All seekers of the truth And nowhere is the truth mocked more Than where the people claim That truth and justice are their core And happiness their aim For bitter knowledge fails to sell Unless made sweet with lies And long experience would tell Of virtue's slow demise From my poem, the Road to Elysium Who did they tell you wrote the above? They knew I wrote it and who did they tell you wrote it? Did they try to tell you Leonard Cohen wrote it, like they did when I first shared Buck Henry? Do you understand it? It talks about how our world is inhuman because of greed, you know, like the greed of broadcasting corporations who need me to write all their comedy and hit songs for them so they can give them to a hundred frauds and charge you a hundred times as much for it. Would you have gone to see Nickleback if they didn't have Fool's Paradise and Nonchalant? Would you have gone to see the Shards if they didn't have Virtue? Would you have gone to see Beyonce without Under My Umbrella? Would you have gone to see Seal without Bad News and Beguiled? Etc, etc, etc. Maybe you still would have gone to see some of these jerks without my music, but not in nearly as high numbers as you did to watch them steal my whole life. So I guess we can't give all that attention to the frauds who built their careers out of my life if we're going to have any attention for the author when we're finished. That would explain why I receive no attention now. And if financial success depends on attention, I am limited as to what I can do about it by myself here. |
